Justin is a teacher, writer, technologist, and coach.
He is the Director of Writing Across the Curriculum and the TRAC Writing Fellows program at Lehigh, where he works within the Office of Educational Innovation & Assessment and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning.
Justin has over 15 years of experience as a teacher in multiple modes, including work with K–12 students in museums and public schools, as a lecturer and professor of art history, an expert in technology, and a Division I and Division III men’s and women’s college tennis coach. He graduated from Kenyon College, earned a master’s degree from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in art and architectural history from the University of Virginia.
His research in art history focused on late medieval and early modern art in Italy, specifically objects that were created, acted on, and restored many times — works that frustrate a study of the moment of creation and involve analyses that move across time and geographic borders. He has taught as a lecturer or Visiting Assistant Professor at Lehigh University, Muhlenberg College, Kenyon College, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Carroll University, the University of Virginia, the University of Alabama, and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. Past courses include The TRAC Writing Fellows Seminar, The Writing Process, Survey of Art I and II, The Early Renaissance in Italy, The High Renaissance in Italy, Modern Art, and Contemporary Art.
At Lehigh, Justin consults with faculty to articulate goals, design assignments, and integrate meaningful writing into their courses. He seeks guidance from across the university to facilitate initiatives related to writing, communication, peer learning, and teacher development. The TRAC Writing Fellows program is a central aspect of Justin's leadership at Lehigh. TRAC Fellows are peer writing coaches who conference with 10–15 students on 3–4 assignments per semester while focusing on the writing process and clear and effective communication.
