In the 2025/2026 academic year OEIA ran Innovation Pilot Projects, this page archives the project page from that year.

Educational innovation can be found in every corner of our campus. We seek to identify and elevate these efforts, providing mentorship and support to individuals that empowers them to not only achieve their goals for innovation, but also develop professionally as leaders in postsecondary teaching and learning. Navigate through the image cards below to discover the kinds of educational innovation being implemented by some of our partners.

Dean Caivano - Teaching Political Theory Through Lived Experiences

This pilot explores teaching political theory by centering students' lived experiences over canonical texts. Connecting theoretical concepts directly to daily life encourages students to analyze how political ideas shape their personal worlds.

Lawrence Tartaglia - Virtual Reality in BIOS041

This pilot introduces virtual reality to a large lecture class, letting students build VR worlds grounded in biological principles. Working in teams with tools like the NIH 3D database, students solidify key concepts and present their final immersive projects.

Gabrielle String - Dewatering Simulated Fecal Sludge: A Student-designed Laboratory

This pilot meets ABET requirements by having students design and conduct discovery-based experiments instead of following set recipes. Evaluation focuses on student engagement, how they troubleshoot experimental failures, and their overall perceptions of the hands-on learning experience.
