College/Department: College of Arts and Science - English & Theater
Student Enrollment: 32
Course: ENGL 090/THTR 090 - All Fun and Games: How Does Play Change Us?
Proposal: This fellowship focuses on bringing humanities-based game studies theory (drawn primarily from philosophy, sociology, and cultural studies) together with theatre-based practices in emergent storytelling, creative problem solving, experience design, and embodied narrative. Students will have varied opportunities to explore the social, cultural, and theoretical role of gaming in human life and to creatively apply this knowledge in the form of game play, game design, and ludological inquiry.
CITL and ITS will support the course through access to creative spaces, supporting game development tools such as Twine and Bitsy and hosting VR, analog and digital game play sessions. This course will also pilot the new Creativity and Play (CAP) Studio for hands-on game-based inquiry and experiential learning.
